Walter Williams is one of my favorite economists and columnists. If you read his articles you will invariably get a good dose of common sense and sound reasoning. One of his latest articles discusses the causes of poverty, (or, more appropriately, the uncommon causes of wealth). If you have any question about why poverty exists today, you should really be asking, "why doesn't poverty exist everywhere today like it has for the vast majority of people throughout history?"
