If You Don't Know Who Geert Wilders is, You Should...

Geert Wilders is a Dutch politician and filmmaker whose life is in danger. The reason he is in such danger is because he had the courage to make a short film that exposed how radical adherents of Islam had used verses from the Koran to justify their horrible actions. The film shows Koranic verses, interspersed with footage of violent attacks. For being a principal creator of the film, he has received countless death threats and must be under constant protection.

As a politician in the Netherlands, he has spoken out about the threat that Islam poses, not just in Islamic countries, but also in Holland where hundreds of thousands of immigrants have come. They have begun the process of converting the political system in Holland to one that not just tolerates, but practically endorses inhumane practices of those who practice Islam.

For his outspokenness, he is currently on trial for hate speech against Islam. Unfortunately, there is no First Amendment in Holland, so protections on free speech are not as strong there as they are here, and he faces the real possibility of going to jail.

He was recently invited by a leader of a new political party in Germany to deliver an address to them at a convention. I think it was a masterful speech, weaving together the themes of the threat of Islam, the former threat of communism, the history and nature of Islam, and what the West must do if it is to survive the onslaught of the radical political ideology of Islam. If there is one political speech that you read this year, I think this is possibly the most important one.
