Trustworthiness in the news media

The most interesting and outrageous scandal from this past week has been the story about Journolist. Seems that a private forum for many prominent news media members was founded in 2007. Only liberal participants were allowed into this group. It was ostensibly set up for purposes of discussion among like-minded people, but it degenerated into political advocacy and collusion. What would be fine among private individuals quickly becomes problematic as soon as their machinations began to have an influence on their reporting (or lack thereof). Check out this good summary of the Journolist controversy, and go here for more detailed information and additional links.
